Constructions and physical environment (CoPE)

CoPE is an interdisciplinary group at ARTEK, focusing on research and education in cold climate science and engineering related to constructions and transportation infrastructure in the cryosphere (snow, ice, permafrost) and arctic marine environment. We seek innovative approaches to solve research problems and adapt conventional technologies to cope with the cold climate.

Constructions and physical environment

Our research and development support:

  • We address phase change issues and their implications for living in the Arctic

  • We study the physical constraints for climate adaptation engineering

  • We develop new technologies and methods for site investigations

  • We assess water resources and industrial minerals in the Arctic environment

  • We investigate climatic effects on mechanical properties of snow, ice, soil and rock

  • We combine geophysical methods to investigate earth and cryospheric properties

  • We adapt innovative and newly developed methods to quantify the physical environment
